38 TSA Unit Profile

Carrier's 38TSA delivers outstanding cooling comfort with a clear conscience now and well into the future. Back in 1902, when Willis Carrier invented air conditioning, controlling your indoor air meant simply maintaining a comfortable temperature inside. Now, it's complicated. Energy efficiency, reliability, environmental impact, quietness of operation and future service costs are important considerations. As homeowner needs and government regulations have changed, Carrier has been at the forefront of the industry. By continuously providing innovative products that meet or exceed consumer expectations and by operating within the growing list of regulatory requirements, Carrier has become the world's most trusted source for superior indoor comfort.

Enjoy cool, summer comfort and electrical savings while helping preserve the earth's ozone layer. Puron® refrigerant is a more energy efficient refrigerant than Freon®-22*, and with the 38TSA, that means efficiency ratings up to 15.5 SEER (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio). This air conditioner easily surpasses the efficiency of a typical, older air conditioner you may be replacing as well as many new models. That means you can enjoy cool, comfortable summers while saving money on your electric bill. At the same time, the 38TSA does its part to eliminate depletion of the ozone layer through the use of Puron refrigerant. That will become more and more important in the future since the refrigerant used in most current cooling systems, Freon®-22, is in the process of being phased out by the federal government.

At Carrier, we understand that it's hard to relax with a noisy air conditioner, so we take several steps to ensure the 38TSA is the industry's quietest air conditioner. Carrier's exclusive Silencer System ensures extra-quiet cooling. The Silencer System includes four main elements: the Silencer System top, a low-speed fan motor with large-diameter fan blades, a compressor vibration isolator plate and a sound hood. The Silencer System top is designed to allow smooth, easy airflow into and out of the outdoor unit to minimize noise associated with turbulent air. This new top design allows us to utilize the low-speed fan motor with large-diameter fan blades, which is quieter and more energy efficient than a high-speed model. The compressor vibration isolator plate is made of a special, vibration-absorbing material surrounded by two metal plates. It's mounted underneath the compressor and absorbs vibrational noise created through compressor operation. The sound hood is designed of sound-absorbing materials which blanket the compressor to add a final touch to the noise reduction system.

A byproduct of this Silencer System is greater operational efficiency. Because the Silencer System greatly improves airflow through the outdoor coil section, your air conditioning system doesn't work as hard as other competitive systems. As a result, the 38TSA delivers soothing indoor comfort with money-saving energy efficiency. And, because the system is more efficient, the coil can be made smaller to take up less of your valuable garden space. It takes up to sixteen Carrier 38TSA models operating at the same time to equal the sound produced by one typical air conditioner.

Carrier maintains the industry's toughest reliability testing standards to be sure that every product we make will provide trusted indoor weather performance. Every step of the development process has reliability testing built in. In fact, Carrier designs and tests the 38TSA for applications up to 125°. That's a full 10° higher than the industry standard requirements. During the design phase, hand-built prototypes are tested for potential performance issues. Test stations on the production line provide quality control during assembly. Then, each product is run-tested by a bank of computers that monitors all vital functions to ensure the performance will meet your expectations.

Carrier's WeatherArmor™ III protection package keeps the 38TSA looking and operating at its best for years to come. Throughout this long history, we have improved our designs and materials to ensure that they stand up to the abuse of the great outdoors while delivering lasting, reliable indoor comfort. Our WeatherArmor™ III system combines three design elements that protect your comfort. First, a galvanized steel cabinet protects the outdoor unit from inclement weather and scratches. A heavy-duty, 12-gauge wire grid prevents coil damage from harsh weather, lawn tools and sporting equipment and ceramic-coated screws provide extra protection from rust, corrosion and the abuse that comes from continuous exposure to the outdoors.
